چکیده

Wetlands are areas where the frequent and prolonged presence of water at or near the soil surface drives the natural system. Next to Buenos Aires, the Lower Delta islands of the Paraná River constitute a fresh water wetland characterized by a complex mosaic of natural and man made ecosystems and a hydrologic regime defined by the Paraná and De la Plata rivers. The ENVISAT ASAR data recently obtained over this area supports previous observations acquired by two different systems ERS 2 and RADARSAT, but with the great advantage of obtaining simultaneous HH-VV data (same environmental conditions), what ensures a consistent interpretation. The data set presented here consists of several dual polarization images, acquired under different hydrologic conditions showing how the dominant soil-vegetation-radar interactions are being modified influenced by soil status, and how the magnitude of this change depends on vegetation structure and polarization. Interpretation of observations is supported by electromagnetic modeling.

Ers-2, Radarsat Sar Backscattering Characteristics of the Parana River Delta Wetland, Argentina

The Lower Delta Islands of the Paraná River in Argentina constitute a major coastal tidal freshwater wetland located at the De La Plata River estuary, very close to Buenos Aires City. It is a complex region where the landscape pattern is characterized by mosaics of natural and man made ecosystems. Since the last few years an increased number of SAR images have been available for monitoring coas...

Joint Use of Envisat Asar and Radarsat-1 Data in Land-cover Classification Using Multitemporal Sar Data

This paper investigates the potential of joint use of multitemporal/polarization C-band SAR data for landcover classification. Multitemporal ENVISAT ASAR data with vv polarization and Radarsat-1 data with hh polarization are used in this study. The presented classification scheme consists of two analytical steps: one for feature extraction and the other for combination of features. A traditiona...

Recent Results about Asar Observations of Wetland Marshes

The paper describes how ASAR observations and electromagnetic models were used to obtain estimates of water level below two marshes with different vegetations structure in the Paraná River Delta in Argentina. The approach followed is based on the analysis of a temporal set of ENVISAT ASAR data which includes images acquired under different polarizations and incidence angles as well as different...

Synergetic Use of Envisat-1/ Asar Img / Apg Data and Optical Spot Xs/xi Data for Land Cover and Agricultural Crops Mapping

RESUME The paper presents the results of land cover and crops identification achieved on the basis of the time series of 27 ENVISAT -1/ ASAR images acquired in Image Mode and Alternating Polarization Mode during the 2003 observing campaign for Malbork test site in northern Poland. The results are compared with those obtained from SPOT -4 multitemporal data. High degree of their similarity has b...

Accounting for seasonality in a soil moisture change detection algorithm for ASAR Wide Swath time series

A change detection algorithm is applied on a three year time series of ASAR Wide Swath images in VV polarization over Calabria, Italy, in order to derive information on temporal soil moisture dynamics. The algorithm, adapted from an algorithm originally developed for ERS scatterometer, was validated using a simple hydrological model incorporating meteorological and pedological data. Strong posi...
